This book was a bit too YA for me.

Although this is a young adult book I greatly enjoyed the story line and found it to be entertaining. I am already started on the second book in this series. Very enjoyable.

Ahhhh, this book was so much fun! I can see why my mutuals recommend it. The cast absolutely shines, and they feel so authentic for their time period of the 1850's. Sophronia had the potential to be obnoxious, a know-it-all, impossibly clever, or insufferably whiny and argumentative, but she was none of that; she was a fun, inquisitive main character who understood her faults, leaned into her strengths, and knew how to rely on other people for help. I loved her to bits. The rest of the characters were just as colorful and came together to create a delightful story that never let up. Y'all weren't kidding, this was an absolute treat! I will definitely be recommending this one.
Also, the narrator was perfect. She nailed the dialogue. Only complaint: she didn’t pronounce “Sidheag” correctly. I actually thought it was Sidhe until I read some reviews. (Which, upon reflection, wouldn't entirely make sense as a name. I've just read a lot of stories with faeries lately.)

This is the first YA novel I’ve read in awhile that truly feels like it was intended for teen readers, yet it still contains Carriger’s signature wit and sense of adventure. I would have loved this 10 years ago.

I had read this before and have too much to read to indulge in reading again. ([b:The House of Hades|12127810|The House of Hades (The Heroes of Olympus, #4)|Rick Riordan|https://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1370008006s/12127810.jpg|21539506] arrived and I didn't get to read it last time because of problems with my card.)

A fun diversion filled with adventure and humor. I love a heroine that believes in action.

What a delightfully fun romp. A YA book set in a steampunk version of Victorian England. Mechanical animals (mechanimals!), intrigue, dirigibles, espionage… it was a very charming and adventurous. Also, there is a sausage dog named Bumbersnoot, which gives a clue as to the tone. Assorted vampires and werewolves turn up.

The ending felt slightly rushed/summarized but I still really enjoyed the book.

The book could have been half the size that it is and cover all of the major points. There is so much filler and junk in this book!

It started out slowly for me, mainly because I was thinking, “please not another chosen one lifted from obscurity and sent to a school where nothing makes sense and everyone hates them!” But as soon as I figured out that Dimity was cool and Monique was a bad guy, I sat back and enjoyed the ride. I liked the balance between bitchy girls and nice girls and how Sofronia had to actually make effort to make friends. I’ve got the next one on hold and I’m looking forward to reading it.
