Would rather read Percy Jackson.

Zippy prose; sharp dialogue; very funny; on the light side but not fluff; the gods are still with us people! All Hail Zeus.

Fluffy fan-fiction. Very easy read, but not anything I’d recommend.

3.5 stars.
Hilarious! Super amusing. Genuinely laughed out loud QUITE A FEW times. Enjoyed Artemis and Athena a lot particularly. Hermes I also liked! I am very fond of the pragmatism of the book in general.

Some problems, namely: 1) Greek gods in London. Why is it always fucking London or New York? Why can't the Greek gods have stayed in Greece. This is some centre of "civilisation" bullshit; 2) Why the fuck is it always ~western~ religious beliefs that are "real" in stories like this?; 3) Whoa that was a WHOLE LOT OF HORRIBLENESS. Not graphic horribleness but. Horribleness in line with Greek Gods (see: incestuous adultery, murder, rape, others); 4) WHOA that was a whole fucking lot of racism in a couple of sections there in the Underworld. Ouch.

In general: What it says on the tin. These gods? Are awful awful awful people. Apollo is the absolute worst. Even our mortal Heroes are pretty awful (condescending dudely engineer Atheist? Check. Super-shy super-kind racist tiny blond English lady? Check.) This book knows how awful everyone is & how morally bankrupt their actions are. Still amusing, probably because it knows.

Edit: Seen some comparisons to American Gods, which I hated. American Gods takes itself way more seriously than this book ever does.

Chaotic, humorous fun. For people who enjoyed Percy Jackson growing up, this book will be a hoot for the adult you.

This was a fun read. I tend to love books that have the Greek gods still existing.

Greek gods in modern day London that are losing their powers. It was exactly what I was looking for, a pleasure read.
