This version has a female, prob British, narrator. I mention that because she is an outstanding narrator and I really feel a good narrator makes a significant impact on whether or not I like an audio-book.
I laughed out loud at the antics of the gods/goddesses. Very clever. Apollo, smug as he is, was definitely the best character. Will look for more by this author.

This book had me thinking it was one of the silliest and dumbest (non-derogatory) books I've ever read for the first 100 pages, then had me thinking, no, wait, Marie Phillips is a genius and this book is a masterpiece, and then I read the last chapter and the epilogue and it was the silliest and dumbest book again. Regardless, it was always remarkably true to the source material and always written very well. The moralist in me wants a different ending, but that's just not how these stories have ever worked! Very fun, big fan.

I did not like this book at all. The premise itself had the potential to be fascinating. It's modern day and the Greek gods and goddesses are long-forgotten. They're losing their power and forced to live on Earth among humans, something completely degrading. For money they use their gifts for more mundane uses - Aphrodite is a sex phone operator, Artemis is a dog walker, and Apollo is a medium on his own TV show. Seems interesting, right? It isn't. None of the characters are relatable and, honestly, I did not like even one of them. All of the characters are either brash and annoying, like Aphrodite and Apollo, or flat and non-descript like Artemis and Kate, the human who gets involved in the gods' lives. It was very disappointing.
I think a lot of books struggle when they do modern 'gods are real and they walk among us'. To me this book was no exception
I kept thinking about how well this would work as a movie.
In Gods Behaving Badly, the Greek gods are real and living in a dilapidated house in northern London in very reduced circumstances. I always love a good "mythological figures in a modern setting" story and this book does not disappoint.
