The premise of this book interested me....Greek Gods living in the modern world.
They are living in London...in a disgusting, run-down house. They pull a cleaner off the street, Alice that Apollo fell in obsession with when he was hit by Eros' arrow. She is oblivious and already has a crush on Neil- who has a crush on her....two people scared to admit their feelings....Apollo cannot get Alice to fall for him...so he punishes here- which send Neil on a hero's journey.
I found the idea....interesting, but the actual work- the writing, the details...a bit beige. I had higher hopes and found the end booooo-ring.

Read if you enjoy Greek mythology and chick lit.

I have a lot of mixed feelings about this book. I love anything Greek Mythology so I was very excited to give this book and try and see how the Gods behave in the mortal world. Going in first, I spent the first half of the book thinking this book certainly was not for me. I almost about gave it up when the real deal picks up and then we see the Gods in utter chaos trying to work it through and dragging mortals into their messes.

Reaching the end, I enjoyed it but I still wish the first part wasn't so focused on how much they enjoy having sex with each other because we know that. We don't need to be told a hundred times. I also find it silly this whole thing happened because Aphrodite wanted revenge on Apollo but no one found out about it, and at the end I was just: It's Apollo, he could have gotten obsessed with Alice even without Eros interfering. Through it all, it was a nice book.

I mean, we all knew this was gonna get 5 stars.

It’s an irreverent, humorous depiction of Greek mythology in modern day - all of the characters are at least a little bit lovable (except for maybe Apollo). And Alice and Neil have such a heartwarming story. I will always recommend it!
funny medium-paced

Despite how long it took me to read this I absolutely loved this book! It was a very different take on the modern day greek gods and I felt it refreshing. I still love the gods even if Apollo and Aphrodite hook up in their bathroom. I love the ending. Neil was so unheroically heroic and it worked. He got his girl back and they get married in the epilogue and just....just awesome. I don't know why my mom didn't like this book

A fun take on Greek gods, in modern times. An adult version of
what happens when you “stop believing” in the gods.

Fun, it was just hard to get into until you knew where the author was going with it.
