Love this. Poor little Birthday 😭 Beauty’s love for Rabbit Hutch and the comfort she finds in Sam and Lily are so heart-rendingly lovely.
slow-paced

The cover of the book is the reason I even picked up this book, the story was alright, classic JW, was the second one I read after Tracy beaker and by the end of the book I realised what makes it a classic JW book

*Currently in the process of re-reading all the Jacqueline Wilson books I had as a kid*

Reading this for the first time since 2008/9 has definitely hit me hard. As someone who experienced much of what Beauty went through with her father, this story did hit me in the feels somewhat. I could really relate to Beauty and her mum and how they felt. This is such a heartbreaking story with such a wholesome ending. It genuinely left me with a lump in my throat.

Jacqueline does an amazing job at depicting domestic abuse in her books, refusing to shy away from such topics.

An excellent yet heartbreaking read.

This has to be my favourite JW of all time. It's so utterly tragic in the beginning, but Beauty's story still managed to be relatable because everyone's felt belittled even if it's just to a small degree. Of course, Dilly is my favourite mum character too. I feel like so often in JW the mum is the problem parents so to see a mother so dedicated to her daughter's happiness made me tear up so many times.

I might just have to re-read this annually.
