An excellent debut novel from a new author. I discovered this book while at work and literally everyone in the newsroom went out and bought it that day to read.

My only points of contention come around with the timeline, especially a news story like that, it would have been vetted and looked over from hell and back before it was published and it would not have been a 24-turn. But that's a minor nitpick.

My friend and I were reading it the whole time and we were always rooting for Alé and Kiara and I was

so estatic when they became endgame. I also would've loved a happier ending, but I get why Mottley did not go that wrote and stuck it in reality.

Overall 10/10 book and a must read for any Oakland transplants, especially those that might be playing a hand in it's gentrification.
