i did enjoy the premise of the book, especially the different ideas of schools of necromancy, plus the marriage of necromancy to the horror of it. i liked the characters, the development of them, and their overall relationship. i less enjoyed the fact gideon takes about 3-5 business days to learn what everyone else has figured out and also the writing style did take some getting used to - lots of throwing words and phrases out without any explanation or context until chapters later (more in the earlier chapters than later ones, but damn give me a dictionary)

An absolutely incredible book! I personally had trouble keeping up with characters, but I think that was just from the sheer speed I was reading this book at. I was OBSESSED with it! I loved seeing the interactions between all the characters, especially between Gideon and Harrowhark (later on, that is). The horror aspects towards the end were so cool to me, too! I'm really curious to see how to series continues after the ending

A fascinatingly morbid world that you get in bite-sized chunks with strong and flawed characters you will grow to love.

To everyone who has been talking about how much they love this book for years: I get it now
For some reason it took me a long time to really get into this book (like over 100 pages) but once I did, I could not put it down! (I think it's a me-problem, and for someone else the early chapters would have been immediately captivating.)
The character development, the mystery, and the increasingly heightened stakes of the book make this a truly compelling read. Also some parts are truly so funny I laughed out loud! That said, it is deeply tragic. I don't usually love tragedy, but something about how the characters handled it felt very real to me in a way that didn't leave me feeling hopeless.
I think Tamsyn Muir did something truly special with this book, her writing style is very visceral (no pun intended) in that I found myself deeply understanding the characters' emotions from her descriptions of things like time passing. I can't wait to get my hands on the next book!!

If you’re having any issues reading the Locked Tomb series, give the audiobook a try! The story and characters are worth it!
