Lately I have been curious about any book about a forest. The cover of The Waking Forest made me grab it without even reading the synopsis. After I read the synopsis I was even more excited to read the story. I loved the story so much. All the creepy forest with the fairytale vibes. The forest has secrets. It appears only to vanish when Rhea tries to touch it. The forest is home for the witch. When their paths cross a dangerous truth is uncovered.

The fantasy had potential but never really sucked you in. I don’t even know how to define what it was but I never really felt IN the story like I do with many fantasy books. Also her connections with people in the story especially the MMC were so surface level that it was almost weird to me when there was a hint of romance because it just never made sense why

Part 1 of this book was eerie and beautiful. I loved. It was the “In The Kingdom” chapters that I had a problem with. They felt rushed and confusing. The language and writing style were also pretty different, which just made this whole section feel out of place.

The author went right back to the writing and style of Part 1 in the final chapter (another In The Woods).

Somewhat disappointing for reasons mentioned above, but overall an enjoyable read.

This read like a fairy tale, I loved the story and our main character. I loved that there wasn't basically any romance playing a big role in the story. And of course I loved how the author managed to keep me engaged and wanting to read more.
However, the second part of the book went a big too crazy and there was a point where I became really confused.
Overall I'd recommend it if you're looking for a magical story that's not too long.
