The bad it’s came so far in the book but Shannon did a great job at explaining what was going on in the few chapters that it had happed in. I am very excited to read the next ok because this book left me on such a cliff. Maybe it was even mount Eskles cliff

I just finished re-reading this book. It is so wonderful and so well written. I love how the characters and their world and their problems become real to me as I read. I like how it's almost like a fairy tale, but not quite.

Content: Clean - a little violence

This was one of my all time favorite book as a child and even now I still love this book! I'm ecstatic that there will be a second book and cannot wait for the release!

I listened to this on audio, and it had different actors for the different characters, which was really fun. The story itself I thought was just okay.

This Newbery Honor book is for young adults, and deals with courage and being true to yourself. I think my 13-year-old niece would really like it.

*2024 Reread
Reading this again after over 10 years, I'm surprised about how much I remembered. There were certain scenes, like the one with the rat, that once it got going, I remember vividly reading for the first time. I also thought that the character growth for Miri was great and she is a great example that just because someone is young, doesn't mean that they don't understand certain things. Overall I think this is a classic and has an award for a reason.

No. I'm sorry, but no. I tried twice to read this book, but both times I was so bored. There is no real, engaging plot-heavy action until the last few chapters when the villains invade the school. I expected so much more from this book, even when I picked it up as a middle schooler. I know people who have liked it, so maybe it just wasn't for me, and I'm not saying don't read it, but for me it wasn't the best and was not, frankly, that interesting. The plot and the world building didn't do much for me.

This book is a work of art. It's one of my go to "I'm bored." reads. Originally, I got my paperback copy from my old babysitter, who was always enthusiastic about my reading. I first read it in... 3rd grade, I think? I loved it, but didn't fully understand how genius the plot is. Now that I'm NOT in third grade, I can really appreciate this beautiful book, and how it works.
