WOW what a thrill ride. This book was...so many things...thrilling. scary (at times)..gory...intense...amazing. Let's face it, you can't have a name like Slaughter without being a writer or thriller novels. And she does it justice, 100%.

My only complaint about this book was that I feel like it could've been condensed a smidge. It was a little long. But, I still loved it and highly recommend!

Where do I begin with this? Simply put, I did not enjoy this. I found the story so tedious to get through, and by the end I found myself finishing it not because I was invested in the characters or the story, but because I just wanted to be done with it. There were so many “what if” thoughts said by the protagonist that I found myself thinking “just get on with it already.” This book was LONG and yet it was filled with loose ends and inaccuracies.

What redeemed this story for me was the poignant entries from the father’s journal and the overall themes of family perseverance.
