I was really excited to finally dive into this bc I absolutely loved RB, ZA & DP. The beginning was fast paced and left me wanting more and more. Then it kind of slowed down a bit and I was very much like "meh this is ok I can't stand this insta out of nowhere romance" BUT by the last 100 pages I was sucked all the way back in and it definitely took this from a 3* to a 4* and left me wanting to immediately dive into the next one! Twisted sisters never disappoint.

Darker and more violent than Zodiac Academy but set in the same interesting world. Love the main two female characters and their dimensions/flaws. As usual, a long book with a cliff hanger and more questions than answers… hoping we don’t have to wait a full 8-10 books for resolutions.

I don't even know where to begin with this book. It carries the same system of ZA and Solaria on the whole but it's an entirely different place, The Waning Lands. It's a different continent that blocked off from Solaria if ZA is anything to go by. It's believable I guess given 'portals' and 'veils' etc.
The story is told from the points of view of Everest, an ostracised water element, and the succubus Vesper, an air element who is considered low born because of her parentage.
On Everest, I can't quite work out what her deal is. I don't get why Everest was shunned from the very beginning of the book. Her only confidants include her mother and her friend Harlon. Things quickly go south for her and her only motivation seems to be breaking free and revenge. On one hand she's like a lost kid and on the next she's a mouse trying to attack a dragon.
Vesper on the other hand, is a warrior. Forced to fight from a young age. If anything I think she's really just a mask, trying to prove that she deserves her place in the world.
Despite the story being told from their eyes, I couldn't really get into this very much. While I get why things happened the way they did, betrayals and all, I couldn't buy into their motivations. I tried really hard to relate to them but there wasn't anything that I could hold on to. I neither liked or disliked them, they were just, meh.
The plot is what's gonna keep me from coming back. What's happening to the Dragons, what are the reapers really up to.

I listened to the audiobook and must say it was not a pleasant journey. It felt like one of the FMCs was yelling at me constantly. overall Everest is a troubled teenager full of anger. I think they are supposed to be 21 but in my mind she is 16. So much anger and whining about everything. I rarely read a book where I don't like any of the characters. I should be rooting for someone shouldn't I?
Like everyone else I enjoyed the last 10%, hated the first 15% and got bored in the middle.
