a good introduction to o'keefe. the story is simplistic, but the simple words pairs well with the brightly colored pictures

On a side note, this is great for introducing simile/metaphor.

Having made a study of picture book biographies of artists, I have discovered getting it right is tricky to give young readers a real FEEL for the work as they learn about the artists' lives.

This one is delicious. Written in present tense, it shows us that she fit into her world and saw things differently. The book talks about her artistic choices...how color shaped her life.

It does not deal with her eyesight loss at the end, and how she turned, without her beloved colors, to sculpture as her creative force.

A wonderful introduction to an American icon.
