On a stopover at Earth, Miles’ double life as Lord Vorkosigan and Admiral Naismith finally comes to a head. More of the clever mix of military SF, politics, and quirky characters that continue to make this series such fun.

Whaaaat. I kind of loved this one. I mean, I can forgive a lot of ridiculous Bujold universe happenstance at this point, so I decided I could get on board with the whole
Spoilerclone
thing. If you can get past that, this is a pretty delightful romp for Miles, Quinn, and Ivan, with lots of action and plots to foil.

4.5 stars. We find our hero at Earth, which is once again a melting pot but for the entire universe.

Miles is dealing with massive money issues and discovers he would like to forget it all in the arms of Elli. I like Elli but it was hard to get a read on her. She wants Admiral Naismith but not Lord Vorkosigan. She has to know it is doomed from the start?? Well, they get involved. We might have glimpsed more of their love affair if things didn't fade to black as it got interesting. Oh well.

Another well written, funny and interesting book where I glossed over some of the more technical bits (that whole tower thing messed with my head there at the end) and went for the meat of the story. How ironic that he starts a rumor about a clone that is actually true!

What to do about Mark huh, what a twist. And what a heartbreak of a reason that Cordelia and Aral didn't have more children...

Miles' clone will prove an interesting dark horse in the future. But it is unfair for Miles to disregard Ivan, as he had proven to be a loyal brother for so many years. Good for Quinn to reject Miles, her talents would be wasted. What a pity to let such a mind rot. I never understood how Miles' mother stood it, but as per the Barrayar novel, she didn't have a choice. After that, matters just settled. I think she would have taken Quinn's path if she could, but then we wouldn't have met our devious Napoleon otherwise. Great story. Hope we see more of Galeni as well, he is a very interesting character too.

When his orders and funds are delayed, Miles finds himself stationed on Earth in his military capacity while trying to keep his double life as Admiral of the Dendari Mercenaries a secret. His life is further complicated by a budding romance with his Dendari bodyguard Ellie Quinn, and made more dangerous by the appearance of an actual double trying to usurp his life in a bid to take down the Barrayaran Empire.

I enjoyed this episode more than some others as it featured many scenes of Miles at his best: trying to talk his way out of danger.

Està bé, a estones un pel avorrit, però al menys surten personatges nous i noves trames, que sempre va bé.
