When Deonn first announced the cycle would be four books instead of three, I was so curious where the middle of the series would take us, and I'm so delighted by how this third installment has expanded out the world and character arcs. I particularly appreciate how deeply this leans into a teenage protagonist's very valid feelings - grief complicated by overwhelming responsibility and expectation, stifled rage for all the obstacles she's expected to hurdle and all the slights she's expected to ignore, and an undercurrent of fear - fear that she's disappointed the people she cares about most and fear that she won't find a path forward. Bree makes some rash decisions in the middle of this cycle and she contends with the unexpected ramifications of those in this book. It's painfully real. I loved getting POVs from our beloved side characters in this and how many magical traditions we explore in greater depth. There were times I felt lost in the arc of the first half, but it makes so much SENSE when you get into the second half, and I feel like the ground we covered was ultimately necessary to the greater story. I have absolutely no idea where we go from here! I'm scared!

I love this series! I also don't know how to review this book without mildly spoiling things from the first two books. I will try.

Bree's journey in this book, like the other two books, was both extremely interesting and frustrating. But I'm always team Bree and I support her making whatever decisions she needs to to get by! While she's incredibly mature, we have to remember that she is 16 and will make 16-year-old decisions a lot.

I think this book was more of a struggle to get into for me because of certain character dynamics, or lack thereof, for the first half of this book.
***SPOILER: I'm never a fan when all of our main characters are separated for long periods of time. But once we had some reunions, the pace picked up for me a lot.
I can't wait for the next one!

A king, a knight, and a prince…

If you know me, you know that the Legendborn Cycle is one of my favorite series of all-time. It has such a wonderful plot, and an amazing cast of characters. Tracy Deonn can release her grocery list, and I will pre-order it, no doubt.

After the cliffhanger in Bloodmarked, Oathbound easily became one of my most anticipated releases. And it did not disappoint.
At first, I was actually hesitant to read it as so many people were kind of disappointed that there were barely any Sel scenes (& Sel is one of my favorite characters), but that was not the case for me.
In fact, this may be the best installment of the series for me. From the very start, I could tell that this was a 5 star read. Trust me, if I wasn't busy, I would have read this ON the release date and finished it in one sitting. But at the same time, I'm SOOO glad that I didn't finish it in one sitting because the ending hit me like a truck!! I feel like I would have gone insane if I had no one to talk to about this book.

I know that not a lot of people didn't like the fact that Bree was back to square one, but for me, it felt like it was NEEDED.
My girl was holding back. She was soo much powerful, and she has once again proved to me that she is one of the best YA characters, if not the best. Her character development made me so proud; the ending was emotional. You can tell that Tracy has so much love for Bree.

At first, I was kind of like oh!!! New characters!! And at times, I do get overwhelmed with a large cast of characters, but that wasn't really the case here. Each character had its own uniqueness and has a distinct voice. And I am so grateful for that. LIKE DAMN BRO THIS IS MY FAMILY!!! I love every single character, especially SelBreeNick. My trio forever. They made me so emotional so many times, and I wish I could just hug every single one of them.

From the very bottom of my heart, THANK YOU TRACY for writing this series. That being said, I'm already scouting in front of my local bookstore for the next book because....wtf!!!

Just absolutely wow. Bree grew so much in this book, and I was hooked from the start. It took me about a month to get through the book. But this book hooked me from the beginning. Bree's inner turmoil with the lines and her ancestors and what to do is just amazing. I am a little perplexed about where the series goes now, especially with the big ending. Also Alice??? As someone who just started reading the series in January, I am not prepared for the years of waiting for the next book.
