⭐️⭐️

The characters are very heavily stereotyped. Both the main characters are pick me’s. It reads like a 2000s high school movie set in a college. The writing has a lot of telling not showing. There is a lot of repetition between the dual POV’s of summarizing what previously happened. The only reason I read was because at times the narration was very funny and it was my first hockey romance. Also as someone who has played ice hockey for eight years the hockey was hard to read. A lot of just felt misplaced.

The SA and other trigger warnings felt very out of place and I didn’t go into it aware of those trigger warnings. One moment she is talking about a party and then the next she is throwing the r word around. Went into this, expecting a light romance. For how hyped this book was, I’m a bit disappointed.

From all the women obsessing over the men. To how a lot of tropes felt forced in like enemies to lovers, small town, fake dating. It didn’t really feel like a cohesive entity..

“Sometimes people sneak up on you and suddenly you don’t know how you ever lived without them.”

If you ever just want a silly, adorable hockey romance with a swoon worthy mmc and a sassy fmc who is a talented singer, READ THIS BOOK.

This story follows Hannah, just a girl who has a crush on a boy but doesn’t know how to get him to notice her. In comes Garrett, who decides to make a deal with Hannah to make the “guy of her dreams” jealous. But of course, feelings start to enter the picture between Hannah and Garrett.

“And the most important lesson I learned is that I’m not a victim—I’m a survivor.”

Overall, I loved this story so much. I hated Hannah’s backstory, not because it was a bad story, but I hate how much trauma she endured at the end of a weak little boy. I love Garrett, but same thing, I hate his back story because of what he went through in his life. I loved their banter so much; it was sassy and funny and reminded me of me and my husband. There was some cringey dialogue and a few of my “ick words”, which is why it isn’t a 5 star for me. But the story made up for it. 😂 Bottom line, this was an amazing story with characters who felt relatable and real. I will definitely be continuing the off-campus series.

Garrett is 100% a new book boyfriend, he was protective and attentive and so adorable. Hannah is one of my new favorite fmcs, I love how after everything she has gone through, she is still able to smile and live her life unapologetically.

Tropes:

🏒dual PoV / Garrett & Hannah
🎤strangers to friends to lovers
🏒he falls first
🎤trauma rep
🏒fake dating
🎤college romance

Some other quotes I loved:

“You won't let anything bad happen to me, will you, Garrett?"
A lump the size of Massachusetts lodges in my throat. I swallow hard and try to speak past it.
 "Never.”

“Baby, I could watch you watching paint dry, and I still wouldn’t be bored.”

“When you’ve already been disappointed by the one person you’re supposed to trust most in your life, you’re not exactly keen on giving people any kind of ammunition over you.”

“I know you’re into me, Wellsy. And I’m definitely into you.”

Happy reading besties 😊

Elle Kennedy did such a great job of not only covering the heavy topics in this book but writing her characters with strong development. This book had me feeling so much nostalgia for college days and becoming an adult. I can’t wait to read the rest of the series
