This book is insanely boring, basic, with characters that I did not connect too and plot lines that either are cut way too short after so much build up, or are completely shoved under the rug. Bree is written like Sheridan wants us to see how selfless she is and how much she just wants Archer to have a good life, and while that may be true, she comes off as selfish in my eyes.
Archer leaves to improve himself and there is no point in her inner monologue does she come to an understanding of why he rightfully left to go make a life for himself. She only whines about he’s gone, even though she saw the signs and CHOSE to ignore them.

Archer is also written to be like the peak of masculinity. “Fierce male instinct” and “supremely male” are words that are used to describe him that make me cringe. I like that she tried to blend sensitivity and masculinity together, as it should be, but why choose those lines specifically?
The weaving plot lines were built up so much, but when it came to the end of these honestly boring conflicts, they were very anti-climactic or solved way too quickly or at the wrong time. They also taught Bree nothing.
Victoria Hale’s “evil” plot was just Sheridan complaining how mauve of a bitch she was, no humanity shown clearly. The murderer/rapist thing was scattered throughout, and Bree did not grow from her trauma or grief, it was just used to give Bree a sad backstory so that Sheridan could relate her to Archer. Archer’s conflict was interesting, but the miscommunication troupes gave me whiplash.
I just wouldn’t waste your time.

The story is sweet, although it dragged on a little at times. The sex scenes seemed a little immature and desperate, almost as if they were wattpad stories. There could have been less of them, too. My biggest pet peeve with this book was the repetitiveness of several of the phrases. Every time I read the word “delicious” I cringed. It would make a good drinking game though... Take a shot every time you see the phrases delicious, glittering, smiled a small smile (or any form of this same phrase) or I drank him in. Those were on every other page it seemed. Also, the “molest” comment was a little uncalled for and weird. It was definitely out of place and random. Aside from some immature writing and repetitive phrases, the story was okay. Definitely wasn’t a tear jerker though (I cry easily when I connect with a book.) This one just didn’t do it for me. All in all, it was alright. Wouldn’t recommend on my own, but wouldn’t stop someone from reading it if they wanted to.

First of all, I thought this book was supposed to be sad. Turns out it’s just cringe writing style from start to finish with excessive p*rn. Listening to this on audiobook may have been my first mistake. If I had to take a shot every time she used the word “furrowed” to describe the action of someone’s eyebrows, I would have been drunk before chapter 3. The phrases “I smiled a small smile” and adverbs “slightly” and “softly” had to be used over 1000 times. I was losing my mind, and I just was audibly laughing out loud whenever one of those phrases or words popped up. It was a great factor and a very big reason to me hating this book. Nothing says sexy like furrowed brows !!!!!! 😫😭

Now those are just my own pet peeves, but overall the book was just boring, awkward, and cringey.

 “I Bree you”

“I Archer you so much”

PLEASE 😭😫😫😫😭😭😭 it was so awful. I couldn’t take it. Again, don’t know if it would have been less cringey to read instead of listen to on audible. Ugh.

Bree was boring and immature to me. She was ready to drop her entire life and lifelong friends after dating a man for like 2 weeks. Then, he leaves for 3 months and she waits around for him like a lost puppy? No thanks.

Then, thinking this man literally died for her (since the writing style and the gathering / memorial? in town made it seem like Archer literally died). Just kidding he survived! Can anything else happen to this poor guy???? Loses his voice box. Watches both of his parents die. Then gets shot. It’s just too much turmoil for one character. Bree just wanted to fix Archer like a project and baby him at times. And the sex scenes were EXCESSIVE. Apparently he’s virgin that knows how to make a girl orgasm after 1 minute of teaching.

Overall, I don’t recommend unless you really enjoy lots of sex in books. 1/5. 😒

The bar was set so high I was disappointed.
We follow Archer and Bree as they each try to navigate their life and trauma mostly together and seperately. Bree shows up in town and meets with the mysterious Archer Hale, she's drawn to him and eventually learns he's mute due to a past accident. Having fled her hometown due to her own traumas and experiences, she is better placed to understand him.
I expected this book to dive deeper into their traumas or to explore more of their past, mke the plot thickens slightly but it felt predictable in many cannon events and ended on an expected note.
Having a mute character with so many intense emotions is quite fresh compared to other romance books, but in other aspects it felt rushed. Everything about him seems so convenient it just helps the story, he's a quick learner, he knows his ways and such.
Too many filler chapters of them making love, we could've explored many more themes in between.
The main characters are lovable and though it felt like we brushed a surface level subjects, their personalities make up for it cause they feel like golden retrievers.
