Not what I expected.

A book I'd recommend to everyone, but I didn't necessarily like it. Like, the ideas presented are thought provoking.  I mean, there's literally two chapters of an anti-totalitarianism manifesto, which isn't thrilling reading.

All in all, it's depressing that such a bleak prediction of the future rings true today. I mean, obvs, it's not spot on, and I disagree with bits. But like...it sure feels familiar.

1984 is infuriating. While it is not a 1:1 match, there are parallels to our world that make you want to scream and fall into depression. Power for powers sake corrupts absolutely.  Would recommend if you want a deep dive into societal coercion by fear. It wasn't an enjoyable read but It makes you reflect and engage with the ideas.

This book is an amazing work of art and I think it is important for everyone to read it, however it was quite difficult to get through and very difficult emotionally.
