oh how could i not absolutely adore warsan shire's poetry. it bleeds with raw emotion, and it manages to evoke a grief in me for experiences that i haven't even experienced first-hand, and that is something so truly rare in writers today.

emotional reflective fast-paced

A powerful. raw and deeply moving poetry collection. Shire writes with such candor and heartbreaking realism about the Refugee experience- and growing up as a black woman in the UK today. I loved how she was able to suffuse her own personal history with elements of pop culture, and case studies- creating such rich and narrative poetry.

I feel like Shire was able provide exactly what I crave when reading poetry- a deeper understanding of both the author, and the world they inhabit. Shire allowed me a small peek in to her inner life, her family, her upbringing- and I am so grateful for it.

I finished this in a single sitting, unable to put it down- and I can't wait to read more of this poets other works

I fell in love with Shire's poetry after stumbling across her work on social medias. I adored how she portrayed the children of immigrants experience in connection with their relationship with their parents.
Shire's poetry spoke to me which is what I loved about reading poetry.
