i learned something about the human experience i never would’ve known without this book. grateful.

incredible read. each poem is written so beautifully it’s amazing how she writes with such a fervent mind. she spoke to me, several times. and i listened as best as i could. thank you, warsan.

I normally don't read much poetry, especially in English as I almost get this sense of guilt inside me whenever I read poetry in any language that's not Turkish. Perhaps I associate the art with politics and national identity, and considering the political aftertaste my favourite Turkish poets leave on the reader's mouth I feel as if I'm betraying my views by immersing myself into poetry that doesn't (and perhaps cannot) represent me.
That changed after this. Wonderfully written with punching lines, the story of existing in a foreign country is far too real for me to ignore the deeper sorrows behind happy sounding stanzas
