I found this book to be somewhat inconsistent, but promising enough that I would like to read the prequel.

Ellie and Jay are great characters with a sweet friendship
The concept of Ellie's skills/powers and the indigenous knowledge that she draws upon
Asexual representation
GHOST DOG! Kirby is the best, and I was hooked by his opening scene
Cons:
Mixing of different magical/supernatural elements; I'm still kind of confused about why we needed vampires
Unreliable continuity in the plot, including some developments that felt unlikely
Like some others, I struggled with this a bit in audio format. The text messages being read out were tedious, and I wanted more unique voices for the characters.
