Elatsoe is set in a world like ours, but magic is common. Darcie Little Badger's creativity absolutely shines in the worldbuilding, and I loved exploring all the magical elements presented to us!

I think this sits in the lower YA category, and it works well for this book. Though the worldbuilding is interesting, it's easy to understand and the narrative is fit for younger teenagers.

The author and main character are Lipan Apache, and their identity plays a prominent role on page! The main character is also aroace! There was one line about a zucchini (a side character suggests Ellie, the main character, bring a zucchini if she doesn't want to bring a date) that I found a tad weird, but that's the single gripe I have.

It was really good, just written a little young for my taste. Loved the world and the characters were interesting! Would recommend for younger young adult enjoyers!

BEAUTIFUL!!! What a nail biting mystery and irresistible world. I loved everything about this book, especially how it echoed and diverged from reality. Everyone should read this.

Ellie lives in a world very similar to ours, but add in vampires, magic, coyote people, and ghosts. Ellie can raise ghosts, but one thing that she should never do is raise a human ghost. When Ellie's cousin Trevor is killed in a mysterious car accident, she must figure out the mystery of his death with the help of her friend Jay without the use of raising the dead.

Elatsoe is a unique book in so many ways. The writing feels different than other books for some reason, but not in a bad way. I had a lull where I got kind of bored and in a slump with this one, but I kept going because I really was enjoying it.

What did I love about this book?

What I didn't like?

A bit slow in the middle. Very simplistic. Kind of flat characters.

Overall, very nice book that I would recommend! <3
