I was not the target audience for this, despite that while speaking to my friend, I actually had a myriad of praise for it. I can't speak on the characterization, as I haven't read much other things with Diana.

Epigraph:
"Draw nigh, come through the press to grips with me, so shall ye learn what might wells up in breasts of Amazons. With my blood is mingled war!"
—Quintus Smyrnaeus, The Fall of Troy

Spoiler"This is what it means to be an Amazon. My pain is theirs, and theirs is mine. Each wound you deal will be one you suffer yourself." . . . "If you cannot bear our pain, you are not fit to carry our strength." . . . "I am immortal, and you are a footnote. I will erase you from my history, and you will vanish, unremembered by this world."

Rough start but a strong finish.

I adored this book so much!

4.5/5

This was great! I love Wonder Woman! I love Leigh Bardugo! This was awesome! Ahem, okay, calm down. I knew I had to get Wonder Woman: Warbringer when I first found out it existed.

There are so many amazing things about it.
- Diana is amazing and beautiful and strong but she's not just the Amazon, she's also smart and interested in the world and she cares about people
- Nim is precious and I love her
- Alia has a tragic life but she's so cool and so nerdy and I love how she interacts with Diana (and also Nim)
- Theo is one of those people I didn't like at first but naww??? and he's ALSO a nerd yay!
- Jason is... something else...
- STRONG FEMALE FRIENDSHIPS THAT ARE BEAUTIFUL AND MAKE MY HEART SING
- EVERYONE IS A NERD AND IT'S BRILLIANT

I absolutely love how every character has different facets which surface over the course of the book. Everyone is in a way mysterious at first but you actually get to know them and I really started to like all the characters.

A significant part of the book takes place on Themyscira and I loved to get to know about this place and how the Amazons life. We only got a tiny bit of that in the Wonder Woman movie (which I loved but I don't know anything about WW apart from that movie) and really enjoyed finding out more about the backstories of the people and how they train and lead their lives.

Diana's arrival in the "normal" world is hilarious and it's also really interesting to see her perspective on things I deem normal. She's also constantly calling out men and that added 20 years to my life. (Every single time Nim gushes over Diana also added 20 years to my life - GAYNESS AND FEMINISM IS GOING TO MAKE ME IMMORTAL)

The plot was quite slow in some parts, especially the beginning, so it took me a bit to get through it. I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing but I do enjoy quite fast-paced books.

The plot is also full of myths and legends and with that also kind of cliché plot points. I definitely enjoyed most of them but sometimes I might have had to roll my eyes. There are a few plot twists (small and big) though that made me gasp. In hindsight they weren't that surprising though?

I want to point out again how much I loved the feminism and the beautiful female friendships without all the stereotypical stupid things most books and movies add at some point. There were a couple conversations about sexuality and race that were so on point and really good, I'm so happy Leigh Bardugo put so much diversity into this.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading Wonder Woman: Warbringer and know I want to bring down the patriarchy even more, yay!
