Scoop is a gentle and amusing satire of the world of journalism and newspapers. Gentle for the reader that is. I would expect that Waugh's colleagues were not too impressed with his portrayal of ineptitude.
On a par with The Loved One, Scoop is enjoyable and fun but, beyond the questionable ideology and racial politics, it is ultimately little more than an entertaining little of nonsense not to be taken seriously.

Odd book really. Very dated language and ideas. Didn't see any of the humour, but the irony was laid on in spades
