Is it weird to call a book from the POV of a serial killer "fun"? 'Cause this was.

We follow Dr. Scarlett Clark, an English professor with a peculiar hobby - murdering evil men. Don't worry: from her perspective, they certainly all deserve what they get.

This is the bisexual revenge fantasy thriller of your dreams (or nightmares). It's filled with dark humor and vigilantism and queer angst. It's beyond devourable.

If you are someone who struggles to stay engaged while reading - this may be your cure. The chapters were SUPER short (typically no more than 5 pages) and most end on a cliffhanger as we switch between POVs. It's like a cheeky drama show cutting to commercials. You've got to keep going!

There was a twist. I guessed it immediately. It didn't lessen my enjoyment in any way.

Is this some deep, nuanced take on sexual violence and rape culture and gender dynamic? Not really. It's not subtle at all. It's just for kicks. And it was a REALLY fun way to spend an afternoon. (I'd watch this show. Give me a show!)

CW: murder, death, sexual assault, violence, sexual harassment, rape, blood, sexism, misogyny, abuse, stalking, toxic relationship, fire, vomit, infidelity, bullying, drugging

i really enjoyed this book. i couldn't put it down at points and i really loved the storyline. my only gripe is that i wish it was written less like a ya novel. i was hooked from the second i read it, and i'll most definitely recommend this to friends + anyone who likes a quick read

Silent Patient mixed with The Maidens  mixed with The Punisher a bit.... if those characters were written by women, for women.

This book was a riot. You follow two characters - a college student starting her first year of college and a college English professor who teaches at the same college. And the professor kills men that have assaulted women. The ride that this book took me on was excellent. I listened to it on a road trip with my friend and it was the perfect length.

The narrators were excellent, especially Scarlett's. The just dry, rude, sarcastic thoughts were excellent. I think the pacing was occasionally off, but it was easy to ignore in this sapphic disaster of a book. Honestly, just a fun time with some really interesting thoughts sprinkled in.

This was only my second thriller I've ever read and oof was it tough to get through. I really struggled to finish the first half because it moved so slowly. The first big twist occurred rather early on, and it felt like it took the wind out of my sails, and I kept thinking "gee there's a lot left of this book, what could possibly happen." I'm glad I pushed through because I enjoyed the last 10% of it. It gets three stars because the ending genuinely surprised me and I think I feel satisfied with it, which I really didn't expect.
I absolutely LOVED that Wes ended up being the typical "good guy" villain, honestly that twist nearly made me bump this up to four stars. Also the fact that the sexy lesbians got to live happily ever after in their murderous love. 10/10 I love that - I was expecting tragedy.
