I loved Emma! She was truly fearless and honest with what she wanted. Ash was reserved but
he eventually came around and I don't think he would have if it wasn't for Emma giving him a lot of encouraging words and affirmations.
Truly a cute love story!

This was funny, steamy, and surprisingly touching in parts! Just what you want from a historical romance. I really enjoyed this one.

This was a delightfully modern take on the Regency romance. Instead of a virginal shrinking violet, the heroine Emma is a more feminist imagining of a protagonist, with more agency and more nuance than you might find otherwise. Ashbury, the hero, is equally as nuanced, although kind of a jerk (trauma does not excuse poor behavior). The awkward situations the author puts these two in were very amusing, and the blossoming feelings left me charmed. While funny, I think some of the humor detracts from emotional moments in a record-scratch-type deflation of tension that I wasn't a fan of. The plot was a little bizarre but if you can suspend your disbelief, this book is a great time.

A very enjoyable regency romance! It delivers on everything put out in the description: a seamstress appears in the Duke of Ashbury’s library wearing a wedding gown and he proposes with the intent of procuring an heir; Emma agrees before implementing a few terms of her own. What ensues in their marriage is lighthearted fun that touches ever-so-slightly on the disproportionate values surrounding virtue and the subsequent consequences. I’ve read the third book in this “series” previously, The Wallflower Wager, but really they’re more companion novels involving tangential characters, rather than a linear series. While this did mean the two felt very similar in plot and narrative, I enjoyed the tropes used and Tessa Dare’s writing style with its witty banter between the couples. Regency romances tend to be formulaic in nature, and that’s why they’re so well-loved. I had intended just to read a few chapters before bed, and then proceeded to finish the novel in four hours, so it’s truly a fast-paced, fun read.
