En: Damn, when I say this book took everything I didn’t like from the first two books in the series and fixed it in this third one, I mean it. In book one, I felt the characters lacked depth. In book two, we finally got more character depth, but the mafia element was missing. This third book gave me both: a mafia setting with actual mafia action, and characters who felt real enough to carry the story.
Mila isn’t profoundly deep, and I don’t mean that as an insult. She’s a normal girl with her own traits: vegan, altruistic, cruelty-free everything, loves animals. She grew up in a somewhat loving environment with a father who tucked her in at night, read her stories, and cared for her, even though he was also distant. Her only real trauma? Witnessing her father kill someone when she was a child, and growing up without a mother. On the other hand, Ronan has more layers, though we know part of his past through Christian’s story, but here we get just enough new pieces to keep him interesting.
The plot kicks off with Mila turning 20, tired of her father always being away for work (which she doesn’t know is mafia-related). She impulsively flies to Moscow, thinking she might find him with another family. Instead, she stumbles into a dangerous world she didn’t know she was part of. Ronan slowly inserts himself into her life. At first, it’s subtle, almost like he’s letting her roam free. But when Mila witnesses something she shouldn’t, Ronan officially kidnaps her. By then, she’s already drawn to him, torn between attraction and outrage.
I loved that the romance built against a backdrop of real mafia stakes. Ronan, despite being the enemy, caters to Mila’s vegan diet, lets her explore his house, and shows moments of genuine care. But I’d be lying if I said there weren’t uncomfortable moments. The intimate scene he films and sends to her father, the slap, the times he pushes boundaries until she cries - those were jarring. I even started tabbing the book with a “disgusted/shocked” category. Yet… it fits the brutal, morally grey mafia world Lori’s creating.
Mila can be frustratingly naive, trusting Ronan too quickly, ignoring clear danger signs. But she’s 20, sheltered, and experiencing freedom for the first time. Her fast attachment to the handsome, brooding man who “saves” her made sense for her age and background. And Ronan? Not a perfect man by any means, but undeniably magnetic. I’m still torn between him and Christian as my favorite MMC of the series.
A little mention: I needed more of Mila-Albert dynamic. It was hilarious.

It had the mafia grit I wanted, a romance that made me feel everything from butterflies to chills, and Russian expressions that gave the setting authenticity. Yes, I had Google Translate open, but half the fun was looking up the words and realizing just how much they added to the mood. For me, The Darkest Temptation is the most “mafia” of the series: dark, morally grey, but deeply satisfying.

Mi-a plăcut că romantismul s-a construit pe fundalul unor mize reale din lumea mafiei. Ronan, deși este inamicul, îi respectă dieta vegană, o lasă să exploreze casa în care este ținută "prizonieră" și are momente de grijă sinceră față de ea. Dar ar fi minciună să spun că nu au existat momente inconfortabile: scena intimă pe care o filmează și o trimite tatălui Milei, palma, momentele în care forțează limitele până când ea plânge - toate acestea au fost șocante. Am ajuns chiar să adaug o categorie de tab numită „dezgust/șoc”. Și totuși… toate acestea se potrivesc lumii dure și moral gri pe care Lori o construiește.
Mila poate fi frustrant de naivă. Are încredere în Ronan prea repede, ignoră semne evidente de pericol. Dar are 20 de ani, a fost protejată de toată viața și trăiește pentru prima dată libertatea. Atașamentul rapid față de bărbatul misterios și atractiv care „o salvează” este logic pentru vârsta și experiența ei.
Iar Ronan? Nu este un bărbat perfect, dar este irezistibil de magnetic. Încă nu m-am decis dacă el sau Christian este MMC-ul meu preferat din serie.

This had me in the first 80 pages (the beginning was so good!) then lost me with the brutal violence, then started to get me again, then finally had me.
What a rollercoaster.
I will say that this could never be me, because I couldn't be with this person that Stockholm Syndrome'd me (it was totally Stockholm Syndrome, she even says it at one part), but I tried to see it from her perspective where she's used to violence/mafia things, but SHE LITERALLY WASN'T. Her dad kept it from her, so it's not like she saw this a ton like the other two protagonist's of the series. And the fact that Gianna/Christian didn't help her?! Foul.

This series is perfect if you’re new to the Mafia Romance genre as each book gets progressively darker, and I was so here for it. Ronan has my whole damn heart. He’s this big, terrifying, unhinged man who somehow also loves the color yellow and has a soft heart? I’m obsessed.
Is it basic? Probably. Did I inhale every book like my life depended on it? Obviously. Would 100% recommend. I wish there were more books in the series

This book gave me all of the feels, kept me hooked from the very first chapter. Finished it in 2 sittings obviously so take what you will from this assessment. 10/10.
