In this Pride and Prejudice variation Elizabeth Bennet is visiting the Gardiners prior to their journey to the Lakes. On a walk in Hyde with Mrs Gardiner they met Darcy and his sister Georgiana, and Colonel Fitzwilliam.
Then Georgiana invites them to their home, and the story continues as they all visit Pemberley.
Lovely story and a new delightful character in Lady Cassandra.

I got confused... was this book about Darcy and Elizabeth, or about Lady Cassandra, the world's most annoying, bossy, interfering "friend" who knows what's best for EVERYONE but treats the guy who loves her like trash?

Not a bad story, but Cassandra got on my nerves so hard that I could hardly take it.

This was a nice, well-written story, and I enjoyed it a great deal. It was longer than I expected, to the point that it almost felt like multiple stories that were welded together--though not in a discordant way. It almost felt like a book and its immediate sequel that simply hadn't been separated. Just as I thought the story was wrapping up, I'd look down and see that I was only at 40%...or 50%...or 60%. There were so many major conflicts that I kept expecting to be annoyed. I kept expecting the silly misunderstandings to start and drag on just to add to the word count. But they didn't. I think I was most impressed that the conflicts felt like those happening between reasonable, intelligent, clever adults.

Lady Cassandra was nice. I wasn't entirely expecting to like her as much as I did. Colonel Fitzwilliam is always a favorite, and I enjoyed him here, too. Georgiana was handled equally well, and so was Mr. Bennet. In short, all of my favorite secondary characters got the treatment they deserved. Also, I appreciate that someone managed to write a solid variation where Wickham and Lydia actually factored in very little. It was refreshing in a way I hadn't expected.

Overall, highly recommended. I only deducted a star because I'd prefer a slightly edited down version. It could have had a few less conflicts and been a tighter book--and also easier to add to the reread list without serious time commitment!
