„what was love if not holding someone else’s hand through their choosen journeys?“
i've heard so many good things about it on instagram and was so happy to go ahead and read it because i was dying to read a summery sapphic romance but it was not what i wanted it to be. i didn't like anything about it, absolutely nothing, but i can't bring myself to give it one star.
“i thought i liked your brother but i actually like…really love you, how did i miss this im so dumb???” is one of my favorite tropes

This was on a best/must-read list somewhere from 2023. I had it on my TBR for a while. I finally got around to it, and I didn't love it. While I'm always happy to have more LGBTQ+ content and conversations (especially bi+ conversations), I found the character immature and self-centered. She kept finding "signs" from the universe, and she somehow always seemed to think they were guideposts for big decisions she should make regarding her love life. I find this an irresponsible way to live (I know, don't hate me please!, it's just my view of the world (as in, I'd never do it this way) and respect and understand that many people believe in signs the same way).
I am happy that Garland found her romantic closure and her bliss nonetheless. However, I would not want her as a friend. That's a big criterion for how I judge a character. Constantly relying on signs, in my experience, also invites more drama than I want, and it's also impossible to reason with someone who only wants to operate on interpretation of signs.

Not particularly complicated, but that’s why I liked it. Lighthearted, fun, cliche but also nice and important messaging. I liked the characters, though I will say that beyond the main we don’t know them that well because of the very fast pace. But it suits the story, and what we do know is engaging. Generally nice story and cute relationship.

a lazy-river romance, in the best possible way. no 3rd act break up or struggles; just that fuzzy gentle feeling of falling in love and finding yourself. “there’s so much life we miss out on when we hold ourselves back. give yourself permission to keep figuring shit out.”
