The Mirror Man

Very disappointed with this story. So many characters, minor ones, but still important to move the story along were just tossed aside with single sentences. Strange happenings were explained by psychological breaks. Not as good as the previous novels in this series.

Välillä tekee hyvää lukea oikein kunnon trilleri, joka vie ajatukset pois arkiympyröistä ja koukuttaa yksinkertaisesti vain juonellaan. Kepler on sellaiseen varma valinta. Juonivetoista, varmaa, vetävää ja hyytävää kerrontaa. Vähempikin väkivalta ja sen graafiset kuvaukset vain riittäisivät.

The Mirror Man is the newest installment in the Joona Linna series by Lars Kepler (out in the US in Jan 2022).

This one was a wild ride!! It had the traditional elements you normally see in Nordic noir: serial killers, graphic violence, and flawed characters. However, this one had a really unique aspect to it that I 100% did NOT see coming

What did I just read. I’m mind blown. So dark and twisted but I couldn’t put it down. This book is proof of why Lars Kepler can always be counted on for a good read.

Kinda slow
challenging dark mysterious sad tense slow-paced
Plot or Character Driven: A mix
Strong character development: Complicated
Loveable characters: No
Diverse cast of characters: Complicated
Flaws of characters a main focus: Yes

shockingly twisted and good

this book was long and not a fast read, but SO worth it. it has a lot of unexpected twists happen. I was entertained until the last page. it is very dark and has intense subject matter so if you are sensitive to that type of thing this is not the book for you. This was my first Joona Linna book and can definitely be read as a stand alone. I will be reading more of the series in the future!

Enjoyed this one a lot. Some interesting aspects with mental health issues that were handled well. A little less of the obsessive detective trope.

probably my least favorite so far? still a compelling case but joona makes some weird decisions, the culprit is quite unbelievable. some really tense scenes that i found myself holding my breath during, something kepler is very good at. but, included one of my least favorite tropes of these types of stories--the eyewitness who has to be hypnotized to remember what they saw.

i'll obvi keep reading joona forever tho lol

Detective Joona Linna is on a disturbing case. A woman’s body has been found hanging from a children’s playground. When the body is identified they find it’s Jenny Lind, a girl that was kidnapped five years prior that had never been found. When Joona notices a mark that connects Jenny’s murder with other girls who had gone missing and then turned up dead, he’ll put everything into solving this crime and in turn, risk everything he’s ever known.

The Mirror Man is 462 pages long and took me six days to read.

I hadn’t read Lars Kepler before and wasn’t sure what to expect but this book is brutal in the best way! I’m giving it a 4 out of 5! If you’re not into torture or gore you should skip this book but if you can hang then this is a must read!

Thank you, Knopf, for sending me this copy!

Here’s to the adventure of finding a novel novel!
