this author keeps rewriting variations of the same book. with no. 8 , i have finally had enough. i dragged myself through this, chapter by chapter and really regret it. one needs more than one good idea to sustain an entire career. years from now, readers will read book one, enjoy it and call it a day. i wish i had.

I found this way too dark and took things way too far - I think this might have been the point of the book and just the author’s writing style but it was not for me. I will say that the last 70 pages are gripping but potentially not worth reading the other 400 to get to that point. If you’re after dark, graphic, torture and SA then you might rate this higher

4.5 stars rounded up

A psychiatric patient witnesses a gruesome murder and can't remember a thing. The hypnotist is brought back. Girls are being kept prisoner under gruesome conditions and if they are caught, their demise is gruesome. Joona burns for the case and eventually gets it.

This is the very typical page-turning, nail-biting Kepler style. Possibly with more bloodshed and horror than usual. It's not my favorite in the series, but it was a quick and exciting read.
