Song: Sweet Home Alabama by Lynyrd Skynyrd

You can always count on heartwarming down home country storytelling from Fannie Flagg. In this return visit to the town of Whistle Stop, you meet the descendants of the old time residents and travel back in time to the old railroad town and memories of the people who called it home. Told in dual timelines, the stories of the past intertwine with the present in a lovely story about love, family and resilience. My thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for providing a galley of this book for review.

So, I gave this book a 4, but I feel like it probably should have been a 3.  This book is a sequel of sorts to Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe-a book I LOVE!!! So I figured I’d love this book. I did not love this book.
My biggest complaint was how bland the writing was.  And honestly, I have read and enjoyed several Fannie  Flagg novels.
I also found some of the original characters’ story arcs unbelievable. The only character she kept true to the original (in my opinion) was Dot Weems.
Finally, this book has absolutely NO conflict in it. NONE. It’s good things happening through the whole book. Which is annoying….
Having said that, this was a fast read, and I actually ultimately appreciated the happily ever after ending.

It wasn't what I expected (a novel about Bud), but I enjoyed it anyway. The book jumped around in time and place and from character to character (old and new) and read like a "whatever happened to...." catch-up book about the characters from "Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe." I believe I would have enjoyed it even more if it hadn't been so long since I read FGT. It was wonderful to have Idgie, Evelyn, Ruth, Dottie, etc., back in my reading life for a short time. The only thing that bothered me about the audiobook was the author's mispronunciation of Kissimmee. Now I do believe I'll go watch the movie version of FGT again so I can revisit these people who feel very real.

easy quick read.

How do you say "raschiare il fondo del barile" in English?
