e-arc provided by Netgalley,

I LOVED this which is no surprise since I've loved basically every other Olivia Dade book I've managed to get my hands on. I'm usually not as much into Friends to Lovers but this was so good and I love being in the "Gods Of The Gates" world. All The Feels still remains my fave of this series but this is a close second :)

super mid but yay to body representation and game of thrones bashing!

sadly, I was actually hyped for this book. it seemed to have an interesting plot, and while I didn't love "Spoiler Alert," I was willing to give Olivia Dade another shot.

but, this book was worse than I thought, and actually disappointed me more than "Spoiler Alert." This may sound kinda harsh, but I'm just giving the most truthful review I can.

I enjoyed the beginning of the book. I thought the forced proximity was done well and in a way I hadn't really read before. I'm not always a fan of insta-attraction, which may be strange since my favorite trope is second chance, but I didn't mind this too much since there was a forbidden romance essence to it.

but I would say that once they finished filming and went back to LA, it kinda went downhill for me. I didn't enjoy either the MMC or the FMC. While their representation in the novel was good, their personalities were not. there were so many reused jokes and stuff I just did not find funny or amusing, like the mysterious herring jar, or everyone hating on the cast mate Ian and his fish, or that random blue closet they kept mentioning.

I felt that the characters were just cringe at times. at one point in the book, the 36-year old man. literally makes the joke along the lines of, "just make like Elsa and let it go" like :/. their jokes and stuff fell flat for me, and I didn't really get the tension after those six years. I would've loved to see more time in between and gotten a glimpse into the pining between the two.

and I absolutely HATED the third act conflict. I felt like both of them were being way too dramatic and also both being incredibly hypocritical. I get those are human flaws, but then like I'm supposed to root for them 20 pages later?

overall, not super impressed by "Ship Wrecked." sad to say it is my first truly disliked book of the year
