I wasn’t a fan of our main character here but that didn’t stray me away from reading.
I would love to see a second book!!

“But was it grief, or was it guilt”.
This book. I haven’t read a suspenseful book in while and this one was perfect for the start of spooky season.
Sarah has lots of skeletons in her closet
that are slowly revealed as you read. The biggest being what happened to her sister.
The whole time I was reading I was so tempted to Google it to figure it out and I’m so glad I didn’t. If you’re reading this DON’T spoil it for yourself. It was so jaw dropping.
I 100% recommend this book for spooky season and I will be buying every single book Lisa M. Matlin writes after this because this book had me HOOKED.
The main story revolves around Sarah Slade. She is a writer that has been going in a downward spiral trying to write her next book so she buys a murder house. All the people that live in Beacon don’t want Sarah or her husband Joe living at Black Wood manor. Soon Sarah starts finding weird notes around her new home with things she didn’t tell anyone written on them. Next she finds out the person who bought the house before her is missing and no one will talk about her. What happened to Amanda?
That is all I can say without spoiling it but this book was incredible.

I def was wondering whaaaat was happening the entire time but then the ending was just meh to me. Wanted to learn more about a certain character’s whereabouts.
Really great for a debut! Wasn’t sure how I felt about the end, though.
I really enjoyed it! A creepy story of a manor that was left empty for many years, until a blogger, Sarah, buys it to renovate it. And then things go really bad. As the story progresses, we uncover new secrets which adds more intrigue to the story. I wish the story was a bit more tighter: some areas were not fully developed, and it felt a but unfinished. But I would recommend this whole=heartedly for this spooky season.
Thank you NetGalley and Random House Publishing for an early access to this thrilling novel!

Watch your back if you buy a murder house.
The Stranger Upstairs was definitely an intense, suspenseful read! The main character’s paranoia and fear that builds as more and more strange occurrences take place in her new home kept me morbidly intrigued, although I struggled to feel connected with the character in general. I did love the cat though! IYKYK.
