DNF at 30%. The protagonist is so unlikeable that I just cannot find the will to care

This book was good. However, it 'irked me that it was a Black Wood Murder House. I had read The Haunting of Blackwood House by Darcy Coates this year, and it has very similar vibes. Good read, I'm sure you will like it if you haven't read other book in the same year.

Exciting twists and turns, some great humour in the narrator’s voice.
Disappointing ending, the narrator learns nothing and lets us down in the end. Boo. Not every story has a happy ending but at least a satisfying one? Come on.

One of my favorite thrillers in a while— the creepiness of Riley Sager’s “Home Before Dark” meets the unlikable/ unreliable narration style of “Gone Girl.” Would’ve probably been five stars except the ending moved a little too fast and sat a little too cleanly for me. But, one of my favorite epilogues!!

came for the mystery, stayed for reaper the cat.

Five star read! This is the definition of a thriller!

Holy wow, ok, gathering my thoughts.

The first half of the book was slow for me. The MC was annoying and I found myself getting very irritated by her, but I think that was intended. By part two, I was completely hooked. The spiral, the twists, and suspense had me! It also has me nervous and wanting to give my house a very thorough check.

I think the husband/wife backstory could’ve been more fleshed out. He was very much a side character that I kept forgetting about, but it didn’t bother me. The FMC and the house (and Reaper!) were much more important.

I’d definitely recommend this book if you like thrillers, suspense, and creepy vibes. 4/5 for me!

Thank you Netgalley and Random House Publishing Group for the ARC!

Loved the sarcasm and dry humor of the main character. Was a good story and the ending left me surprised!
