While this book kept me on my toes up til the end, the ending is SOOO farfetched and unrealistic with today's technologies.

This is such a thrill and twisty story. Sarah and her husband Joe decide to buy a house that has been sitting in the market for years. It has a deep past with two murders. Sarah is a social media influencer and knew the house needed work. She plans to remodel the house and document the journey online. the story grabbed your attention early on and I was hooked into what would happen next after moving into the house. It’s a quick easy read. Many thanks to Random House Publishing Group - Ballantine, Bantam and NetGalley for the digital review copy of this novel. All opinions expressed in this review are my own.

I really enjoyed this book! Kept me engaged and stumped!

This book felt like it was more horror than suspense which I wasn't expecting. All the characters were so unlikeable or completely undeveloped like Sarah's husband, Joe. I also found it strange that much of the end of the book was from the perspective of a relatively minor character. The writing was decent for a debut author but I just didn't enjoy this book. Thanks to NetGalley for the digital ARC.

The Stranger Upstairs showed a lot of promise story wise, but just didn't quite deliver for me. Matlin did a great job building suspense and establishing this story as a true psychological thriller/horror and I strongly believe that she has a lot of potential within the genre. I just think there were a lot of story elements that could've been fleshed out a bit more or just dropped all together to make the narrative a more cohesive and gripping read.
dark mysterious tense slow-paced

I liked this for the haunted house. A lot of the rest of the plot was similar to other books, but it was a fun popcorn haunted house thriller.

So many twists and turns!!!! I enjoyed the suspense!

Solid story with interesting premise but I was a bit disappointed by the ending, not my favorite mystery / thriller by far

I’m struggling with my rating on this one. While this book was creepy and definitely had its haunting type moments, it was also slow. And i wanted more of a build up and more of a climax. I actually DNF at one point and came back and finished it.

I felt a little underwhelmed at the ending but it was still an interesting book and very unique. I think more could have been done with the creepy house tho.

I do appreciate the authors note about mental health and I’m glad that she was able to overcome her low with hers.

I’ll say this is a 3.5 for me.
