This was just not for me at all. It was tediously slow, left so much unresolved, and was grating on audio with all the “CREAK” and “MEOW” vocalizations. The only enjoyable characters were the therapist and the cat. So much happening here that I legit forgot that she was supposed to also be an influencer until they mentioned it again at the end. I felt like it would never end, and then there was an afterwards that just made everything worse. Personally, for my tastes, it was my least favorite book of the year. Also, from like fifteen minutes in I was like
GIRL YOU HAVE CARBON MONOXIDE POISONING!

3.8 ⭐️ This was such a great suspense book!! It was slightly predictable but the writing had me so on my toes that if somebody else walked in the room I would jump. Great build up, great character stories/backgrounds, and great plot.

At first I was enjoying it but then the ending pissed me off. It felt like it wasn’t fleshed out enough and I was disappointed that Sarah (Lizzie) faced no consequences for her actions. The epilogue pissed me off even more.
mysterious tense medium-paced

I was really nervous about this read considering previous reviews however I GREATLY enjoyed it! Call me naive but I did not see the ending being as it was! I was so engrossed in the different perspectives that I just knew it had to be one of those options. And honestly I’m not mad about the way it ended!

I spent a few nights after putting the book down for the evening wondering the what ifs…. Great fast read!

I feel like such an outlier here, but I just wanted to DNF this book soooooo many times. I never DNF because I have to see things through, but this book just didn’t know what it wants to be — was it a thriller? Was it a paranormal activity type of book?

It’s just so hard for me to be invested in a book when I loathe the MC. Any time she would complain about something, I legit was too annoyed to care because she was the worst.

And although the book had an ending that gave explanations, the epilogue felt more confusing!!! Because once again: is it a paranormal house? Or was the MC just a poisoned drunk and everybody who enters the house will have a similar experience?

I have still some questions, and idk… the description feels like it betrays the actual book a bit, and I just could have gone without, but maybe that’s just me.

Book was kind of a mess. Disjointed story, editing errors. Eh.

This was a terrific read. Lots of interesting twists, and turns, psychological problems that only compound. Enough resolved at the ending to make it feel like an ending, but a few questions linger. I would definitely read more from this author. 5 BIG STARS!!!

I hated the narrator. I think that's kind of the point, but it made the reading experience annoying. And then the ending, while page-turning, left so much unresolved - and not in a spooky way but just an unnecessarily and unprofitably ambiguous way. Like, I wonder if the author even knows the answer to all the little mysteries introduced to try to make the book more suspenseful?

But I wanted a quick read, and this one was entertaining enough.

It's well written and a good creepy house book. Here's the problem: the protagonist is a deeply unlikeable person. The only redeemable quality I can attach to her is that she's...tenacious I guess? It's hard for me to root for her even on an anti-hero level when she literally destroys lives prior to and during the book. Also let me tell you how annoyed I am that the one decent character in this entire book ends up dead in the end - and there's some serious wreckage left behind because of that death that the author never remotely acknowledges or touches on.

So yes, the two stars here boils down to how the book made me "feel." I get enough ugliness in real life and this wasn't a suspense novel about a protagonist overcoming and triumphing so much as being allowed to continue being a terrible person sucking up victims in her wake.
