I haven’t read an intermediate level book in a long time and after this fantastic one I am going to look for more! It’s about a 12 year old girl who loves to write named Jane who lives with her scientist father in Maine. Her mother comes into town from her glamorous life in Hollywood with a new fiancé and the intent to take Jane away from her supposed podunk life. It was a great story with wonderful, relatable characters, a great setting, some depth and substance, and an education on plankton and ocean sustainability thrown in for good measure!

As someone who is obsessed with Maine AND wanted to be a writer my whole life, this sweet and charming story was right up my alley. It took me longer to get into it than I expected, but that seems to be the case with everything I read these days so I'm pretty sure that was just a me problem. I absolutely adored Jane, the relationship she had with her dad, her best friend Kitty, and her blossoming romance. Plus, I learned far more about plankton than I ever thought I would!
