Somehow I feel like there was a drop in writing quality compared to the first three books...
an excellent edition to one of my favorite series growing up
I LOVED IT.
Shadow Study has been a book I have been desperate to read since I first heard about it, I stalked the author, and any place that had the book for pre-order hoping that the publication date had been moved forward. When I got Shadow Study from netgalley I was torn. I wanted to drop everything to read it, but also had other books I had committed to that were published before Shadow Study, but after a string of books I did not finish, I picked this one up, knowing that I was guaranteed to get out of the slump with Shadow Study.
I want to write this review and tell you everything that I loved, share with you what the characters get up to and all the secrets that are hidden within the pages. I want to share with you the final words in the book, and fan girl over them, but I can't. So this review will be vague on exact detail, but know that it is full of so much love for this book and for the author. I demolished every single page of this book, I was hooked and had to keep reading just one more chapter, and finished reading at 4.10am.
Shadow Study has three narrators, Yelena, Valek, and Janco. I loved how this played out within the pages, especially as the plot progressed, the three narratives only added to this story. It also made it harder to put down, if you finished Yelena's part, you had to read through Valek and Janco to get back and find out what happened to her. We are introduced to some new people, and they make an interesting mix in the pages along with the characters that we know and love. One of the new characters I never really felt comfortable with, and when their story is mixed with an old face nothing good can come from it.
Another thing that I loved in Shadow Study was getting to visit not only Yelena's world, but also Opal's too, catching up with characters from both 'worlds' and seeing how the story lines cross over and intertwine with each other. Shadow Study also gives us another characters world to learn about. We get to revisit Valek's past and find out how he became a feared assassin, and how he gained all of his skills.
Final Verdict
Shadow Study is amazing, and in my opinion unrateable. There is no rating that is good enough for this book. Shadow Study has set the standards extremely high for all the books I am planning to read.

I loved revisiting Valek and Yelena. It inspired me to re-read the entire series. I can't wait for the next book. These are not shockable works, but are very entertaining.
Things are changing
Oh my word! We’re back to Yelanas story and we are getting more points of view now, and I love that! The only reason it’s four stars is because of the ending, bugger the ending. Luckily, there’s two more books :)

skipping back into these characters heads every year is like going home to see old friends :)
I'm honestly so close to finishing this chronicles and that's probably the one thing that is getting me through these books. It's weird to say this because I absolutely adored Yelena and Valek in all the other books but for some reason they just frustrated me in this one. Yelena kept making horrible decisions and some of the stuff that Valek went through hurt my heart but then he would annoy me.
Besides them annoying me, I thought it was kind of interesting that Yelena was going through some power troubles like Opal. But then the whole memory loss just kind of confused me when it first happened. I'm not even sure if it makes sense to me right now after finishing the book but for now - I'm just going with it.
Then there's Valek and oh boy - the memory thing he went through? Yeah, don't sign me up for that. I would not volunteer as tribute because yikes! I'm just glad that is done and he can go back to being his normal loving self .. in the next book. Maybe.
I'm not sure what the next book will bring me - novella wise or not - but I'm determined to finish this series out.

I can remember first discovering this author and the Study books. I instantly fell in love with the books and Yelena and Valek. The world that Mrs. Snyder created was a magical one. It was great to see Yelena as she grew and gained more abilities. I tried to read the Glass books but they did not draw me in as much. One thing that was missing was Yelena. Yet I could appreciate that the author was branching out with the Glass books. So when I learned about these new Soulfinder books that would feature Yelena and Valek again I was thrilled. Yet, I don't know if it is because I have been away from these books for a while or what but I was not loving this book as much as I hoped for and craved from the Study books. While I did like to revisit again with Yelena and Valek at times it was slow reading for me.
