Death's Obsession

Avina St. Graves

3.35 AVERAGE

3.5 stars. This was a really fun novella, I loved the little notes and trinkets Death would leave Lilith and the way he was always there but she couldn’t see him. I can’t say too much about this s it’s only a short book and I don’t want to give anything away but it was a fun read.

I have to keep reminding myself that this is a novella because I wanted so much more from Letum and Lilith, their story is so heartbreaking and wholesome at the same time and there seemed like there could have potentially been a full novel here. I loved Lilith’s growth with herself and her mental state, hated her bf though.. and the smut was amazing too, those shadows of his… oh my haha.

The premise of the story is super interesting. The execution however, is not as interesting. The author could've done something so cool with this, make it very deep and emotional and everything... but it just wasn't.
For example, it would've been 10.000 times more interesting if the psychological factor in it was explored more - having the protagonist actually hallucinate everything (and slowly figuring that out). Going to understand why it is Death she hallucinates. But no, it wasn't deep at all, just repetitive.
The romance was okay, but like I said it would've been so much better if they had a deeper relationship.
It was entertaining, sure, I read this book in like one day. But I wouldn't go out of my way to read it again, hence the two stars.
