I normally love a spy novel however that wasn't the case with this one. The first quarter of the book was a romance with the last third rushing through the good bits seeming like Evie is in Germany for mere minutes before looking to leave. While this wasn’t a bad book, it just wasn't what I was hoping for.

This is why historical fiction gets a bad wrap (commercial fiction), good premise for a novel but just ends up being a bit average overall. Not a bad read, but not a highlight either. Its just fine

I was definitely not the target audience for this. I got the book in a subscription box and knew it wouldn’t be for me but gave it a go anyway. Fiona McIntosh does have a beautiful way of writing and getting the reader to really understand what’s happening but the themes in the book just weren’t for me
