SO. SO. GOOD. Definitely in the top three Austens that I've read, maybe even better than Emma. The satire is extremely evident here, Anne is a great protagonist, and WENTWORTH. WOW. I know it's one of the lesser-read Austens but I think it should be as commonly read as P&P.

This book was so funny! I loved Mary. She Brough so much humour into everything. I not normally a fan of second chance romance, however this made me route for Anne and Captain Wentworth's love story.
I think the plot when Anne is in Bath was a bit slow for my liking, however near the end it picked up again.
I wish we heard more about the other characters' endings.

Probably closer to 4.5 stars. Not as good as Pride and Prejudice, but better than Emma in my opinion, and maybe better than Sense and Sensibility (but I haven’t read that in a while). First chapter is obviously slow / establishing setting, but the rest of the book is all miscommunication and jealousy and hidden feelings (classic Austen).

I've never given Austen a fair shake, but I did with this, and okay, I get it. It's amazing how Austen could turn a simple conversation, or, more remarkably, even an expression into the most intense, agonizing moment. The bitterness and melancholy of the earlier parts of the book, really make the ending that much sweeter. Just lovely, tbh!
