Listened as an audiobook narrated by the author himself. This is a really excellently told story about undocumented citizens in the US - highly recommended.

This is a really great story that is very thoughtful but also very to the point. I think there are a lot of valuable stories from Vargas's life that are not gone into. I think he should really write a comprehensive memoir because I think he has a lot more to say.

I thought this book was very good about making its point - not all undocumented citizens chose this life. When you were brought here, but didn't realize it was not legally, should you then be happy about giving it up and returning to a country you've never known?

This book has a lot of heart and is very approachable and readable. It's helpful to have read.

The last third changes style and feels a little less cohesive as it moves into present day life. Conscious or not, the reduced focus may reflect the increased uncertainty in Vargas' life (both about residency status and how he fits into the movement around immigration reform). Many of the questions posed and arguments made seem more personal in nature and rhetorical. They aren't always well argued or as persuasive as I'd hoped for.
