This was the perfect choice for a New Year's Eve read last night! I wished I could've met Lillian and been friends with her unique and eccentric character!
definitely had some good aspects and i generally liked the writing but i just didn’t like boxfish so it was hard to get into. she felt too perfect and symbolic and not like a real, flawed character. i really did not care about what happened to her. the worst things she did were be sad for getting cheated on and eat oreo

I was looking for a burden free story that was lighthearted but still had depth and I got it. The emotions behind Lillian's experiences are relatable in a way that makes the human experience feel seen without feeling depressing. If you are looking for something to take you away from the heaviness of the real world without going too far out of it this is a great choice. Let me feel my feelings without forcing me to feel them too hard if you know what I mean!
This book had a more depressing tone than I expected going into it but it worked for the story. I thought this would be similar to The Boston Girl, but it wasn't. It tails Lillian Boxfish through a 10 mile journey through New York on New Years Eve, 1984 and flashes back on the high highs and low lows of her life from the 1920s to the book's present. I liked the writing style of making the flashbacks run in non-sequential order, it added an interesting texture to the story.
