The Friends We Keep

The most important thing for me in a story is to be invested Sadly this one has a Prologue that made most of it not a very interesting read as I already knew the end to so many parts to come. Would have been much better without this.

Maggie, Evie, and Topher are best friends and roommates at university but after graduation part to make their own lives. As time goes by they find themselves living lifes they never expected and are keeping secrets. At their reunion they discover how much they miss each other and make the decision that they are going to live together again. Will the secrets they keep destroy the life they are making? Friendship, loyalty, and love collide in this story of friends that become family.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing an arc for my honest review

Sweet story - drug on and on at the end

Some books are perfect for beach reads, vacation reads, and travel reads. Those books are light-hearted, quick, easy, and ... predictable. If you need a book like that - look no further than The Friends We Keep. I started and finished it in 2 days and successfully predicted the outcome a quarter of the way in.

This book is the epitome of "Chick-Lit" in my opinion - which I have nothing against - I do enjoy one of those now and again when I want something easily digestible. I may not have been in the mood for one when I read this though - it felt a bit clunky and forced in spots. It was "too easy" in some areas and sometimes eye-rolling in others.

It's not a book I'd encourage you to push to the top of your must-read list - unless you love these types of books. In which case - you must check this one out as soon as possible.

This story about friendship fell short for me. Evvie was not a likeable character and I didn't like the decisions she made. Maggie needed to grow a backbone and I feel like we barely got to know Topher. After secrets spill out, the end happens abruptly and I still have questions about one of the events that happened in the book -- it wasn't resolved well. I've read other books by Jane Green and enjoyed them, but you can skip over this one.

A grateful and heartfelt thank you to Berkley and Penguin Random House as well as Jane Green for this truly wonderful read!

This perfect beach read is NOW available so, please go grab it!

Evvie, Maggie and Topher knowing each other since college go through many ups and downs in their friendship. What remains the same is the love they share for one another and how even through time, they can always come together again. This book follows them through college to getting into relationships, dealing with alcoholism to opening a cafe.

I honestly, really enjoyed this novel. It showed the truly wonderful feeling of having those kind of friends that most of us can only dream about. While also showing the humanness of these friendships that can either ruin or make stronger.

Jane Green did a truly wonderful job with these characters and their descriptions. They were human and not even close to perfection. Hence, why I could fall in love with this book. Something, that a lot of authors just can’t do. Characters need to be flawed for the reader to empathize and feel close to them.

It’s a ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ for me and I know it will be for you as well!

Friendships, relationships, reunions and secrets. Told in chronological order about three college friends: Evvie, Maggie and Topher. Despite the mistakes we make in the past, it’s important to forgive your friends and move forward.

3.5 ⭐️

A beautiful story of the trials and lives of three friends who met up in University. They become fast friends, roommates and plan their lives. Things aren't always easy, they go their separate ways and take jobs, get married, meet others, but are always remembering the good times together until the secrets start to wear on them. They vow to get back together, keep in touch, meet up again, but life gets in the way. We see their ups and downs, the regrets, the grief, the happiness, the fun, and years go by before the three get together again. However, dark secrets may destroy their friendship forever.

This is a story told in leaps over many years from the view of three best friends. It is a slow read but lets you feel many different emotions allowing it to be a worthwhile journey. Some scenes are included because they are convenient to tie the storyline together but did not diminish the plot. Trigger topics include sexual abuse, alcoholism, addiction, and emotional abuse.
