The Friends We Keep

Jane Green

3.52 AVERAGE

It never feels like summer without a new release from Jane Green! A beautifully-written story about three friends, over many years, which reminded me that some of us are privileged to choose our own true family and often find acceptance where we least expect it. Another wonderful contribution from one of my all-time favorite authors, this makes for great summer reading.

A great story of how a friendship an last so long between 3 different people. It had all the things a lifelong friendship should have, secrets, betrayal, love, hate and just plain love.

Sad but good, reflective of life

I've read several of Jane Green's novels and they are all excellent. This one deals with three friendships that started during their time at college and lasted throughout their lives. It's a realistic portrayal of secrets we keep even from our closest friends, and the ways we drift apart from people who were friends during a time in our lives. Under the story line is the theme of acceptance and forgiveness. Great characters and a good, fast paced story. 4.75/5 stars.

The Friends We Keep by Jane Green was disappointing to me. This isn’t a bad book. It just wasn’t a great book. I love Jane Green. She’s one of the authors I look forward to reading. But this book was just meh for me. It was a little predictable at times and honestly, I felt like Topher’s storyline was just there because maybe the publisher wanted it because we always seem to need the gay best friend? He served very little purpose to the story. Maggie, Evvie and Ben’s story would have been a better way to go, in my opinion. That book would have been awesome. And, Topher is a great character; he’s just in the wrong book. Hopefully, this is a rare miss for Ms. Green and she gets back to writing the storylines that I adore.

Sweet story - drug on and on at the end

This is the perfect start to your summer reading in 2019! In The Friends We Keep, Jane Green follows three friends from college throughout their college years and into adulthood. What I really loved about this book was the realness of the characters - they weren't perfect, but they were real. Their relationships, ups and downs, strengths, and forgiveness are what made this story the perfect summer read. Characters you can connect to - and maybe have even been in the same or similar situations - let you know that you are not alone.

Added this book to my TBR three or four years ago. My reading tastes have obviously changed and it’s no longer a book for me.

3.5 maybe. A solid 'meh'
