The Friends We Keep

Jane Green

3.52 AVERAGE

I've been a fan of Jane Green since my own college days, back when my roommate introduced me to her books! Her newest release is always a must read for me. I'm happy to say The Friends We Keep is one of my all time favorites of hers! I absolutely loved this wonderful story of lifelong friendship. I particularly loved that the trio of friends included 2 females and one male--I loved each of them--Evvie, Maggie and Topher. This book beautifully illustrates the bond of best friends--how you can pick up right where you left off despite time or distance between you.

Typically, Jane Green's books focus on romance, which of course I love, but it was so refreshing to see the focus on friendship here. Of course there is romance and relationship issues in this book, but the heart of this story is true, lasting friendship. If you're looking for a feel good read that will make your heart happy, this is the one for you. A perfect weekend read you won't be able to put down!

Jane Green has always been a favorite of mine so I was very excited for this one. Just as good as all her others!

I was given an advance copy of this book and saved it for vacation. Glad that I did. Perfect book to relax with. Topher was my favorite storyline. Jane Green is always at the top of my list.

I wanted to like this book more than I did in the end. Somewhere around the 50-60% mark I started to get bored and lost interest. I continued to read because I wanted to see how the big secret contributed to the end. I wish there had been more revolving around the secret. Overall, this is a light, quick read.

Evvie, Maggie, and Topher have known each other since university. Their friendship was something they swore would last forever. Now years have passed, the friends have drifted apart, and none of them ever found the lives they wanted – the lives they dreamed of when they were young and everything seemed possible. Evvie’s supermodel career that started off promising has been derailed, Maggie’s seemingly perfect marriage is anything but, and Topher is a successful actor living with a secret that is making his chance at love harder than he imagined. By their thirtieth reunion, these old friends have lost touch with each other and with the people they dreamed of becoming. Together again, they have a second chance at happiness… until a dark secret is revealed that changes everything.

review: Jane Green has always had a way with words and her newest book reminds me just how well she brings her readers into the story. From the very beginning I felt like all three were my friends and I was sharing in their triumphs and disappointments. I really appreciated that each character was flawed and were each battling their own demons. It felt very real to me as everyone is always dealing with something and sometimes it’s hard to come to terms with those things. This book is a testament to how strong love, family, and friendship is – even when the going gets rough. A great read and incredibly engaging – you’ll definitely want to pick up this one for summer! rating: 4.5 out of 5 ⭐️

I liked the writing style, but the ending was so anticlimactic.

This story follows three characters and their friendship throughout the years. It’s amazing to see how friendships change throughout the years. The friendship consisted on two women and one man. It was so refreshing to read a book about friendships, and all the things they had to go through.

Evvie, Maggie, and Topher were the best of friends and roommates at University, and started to drift apart as the years go on. They made a pact when they turned 50 if they were still alone they would all live together again. Each has had a curve ball thrown at them during their life. Can the friends become as close as they once were?

The story follows the perspective of each of the characters throughout the years. Which is something I loved. The story really shows you true friendships and what happens when you keep secrets from one another. I would recommend this book to others to read!

Kind of meh

3.5 stars. Maggie and Evvie met on the first day of college, quickly pulling Topher in as the third member of their friendship. As college came to an end, they promised their friendship would last the test of time. Unsurprisingly, they drifted apart, and none of them is living the life they wanted. At their 30th reunion, the three reconnect and hope they can start over and lead the lives they desired.

This was a nice story about college friends and the way their lives veer after leaving university and each other. I enjoyed that each of them was so different, but that is what made their friendship so strong. Overall this was a cute summer read, but nothing that blew me away.
