Her world building is flimsy, her characters are underdeveloped, and she under-utilises her villain (the only reason I’m still reading). Her main couple has little chemistry and her magic system is underdeveloped. Fights in this book are almost as short and uninteresting as her spice (which there is very little of). I know this sounds like a harsh review but I keep hoping to enjoy this series and I simply don’t. She’s got the bare bones of something good but it was tarnished by her complete lack of care for her world and characters and instead feels like something based completely off of trends and tropes. I encourage her to keep writing but to develop her story a little more and don’t be afraid to take risks.

i very much enjoyed! :)

it was cool seeing the other rulers and i hope we see more of the day kingdom in the next book fr

both des and callie annoyed me a lil in this one cause oh my GOD stop keeping secrets from her, des!! and callie, stop doubting and second-guessing his motives!! they just need to TRUST each other

not that this was a bad thing, but i could see through most of the whole villain plot, it was fairly obvious des' dad had something to do with it. and it's not CONFIRMED ig but the king of the death kingdom is obviously the thief of souls, though knowing these things didn't ruin the book for me! i like having hints of spoilers tho so i may not be the majority!

An Extension, to its amazing predecessor. While the first novel, 'Rhapsodic' felt ironic because of it was Fae kings living in Rock band t shirts and leather boots, this is it's diametric opposite. Gowns, Solstice Party and sneaky fae queens. I loved every moment of it.

On top of it's introduction to the Otherworld, I loved this undercurrent shock mystery you feel building. WOW!

Cannot wait to read the next two... x

So much better than the first. Less flashbacks and more story detail and intrigue.

I have thoroughly enjoyed this series! After Rhapsodic I knew I had to jump into A Strange Hymn. I find this to such an intriguing fantasy series. I absolutely love Callie and Dez. I did see part of the twist at the end coming. However I am still curious to see where the next book takes the story. The love story between Callie and Dez is one of my favorites. If you love a romantasy with a morally grey mmc you should definitely check out the Bargainer Series.
