This series continues to be fantastic and I pretty much just want to curl up and read them non-stop all day every day. LOL. Sadly, that doesn't work out and they battle with things like "work" and "ocd need to stay on top of tv watching" - the good news is that it puts time between needing to buy new ones on my Kindle! LOL.

This book did a wonderful job expanding the world in which Temeraire exists, taking us to China, the nation of his origin. We meet many other colorful characters, including new dragons just ready to break your heart, and get to know Laurence even further and even more. The feels are super real as the risk of Laurence and Temeraire being forced apart is intensely experienced throughout the novel.

Can't wait to start BLACK POWDER WAR, probably later tonight!

The world building is nearly unparalleled. The characters (including the dragons) are all very full and nuanced, and there are plenty of exciting twists and turns in the plot.

However, this particular book was descriptive to the point of long-windedness at times.

Rather abrupt ending, but I'm not exactly complaining because I was ready for the book to be done. The classic writing style was fun in the first book but in the second is a little old and long winded. Not as good as the first for sure, but sequels so rarely are. On to the next!

Even better than the first, Novik expands greatly on the foundation she laid with His Majesty's Dragon with some first-rate worldbuilding and just enough historical and nautical detail to give the story flavor without being confusing.
