fast-paced

I realize that I’ve read each of these novellas many years earlier, so it was fun revisiting each of these stories. The moustachioed detective cuts through nonsense and quickly, using psychology, sees his way through contradictory statements to see the intent behind the outcomes.

Each story is very short, particularly the last, and missing the classic twists and turns I like of the longer Poirot stories.

Saya mencari Hotel Bertram.

Murder in the Mews by Agatha Christie 3/5 ⭐⭐⭐
The first story with Jap had some decent moments.

Story two all I remember was the maid coming onto Poirot and him being like. I'm too old, little girl.

Story three was kind of a Clue type thing, eccentric types in a big mansion and Poirot showing up not sure why he's there till someone dies.

And the last story was a boring and improbably fast love triangle turned deadly...

Four mysteries with Hercule Poirot as the detective. Fun to watch his brain at work. Three are murders and one is a theft. Nice in that there is no real blood and gore like some of today's mysteries and that there isn't a second murder thrown in when things get slow in the middle. These were too short for that. Great bedtime reads because short.

Dead Man's Mirror: Poirot gets summoned to a rich man's estate and before he can talk to the man, it appears the man killed himself. Poirot explains why not and who did it.

The Incredible Theft: Wartime England. Two men have plans that could change the tide of war. Woman thought to be a spy invited to the estate over the weekend. The plans go missing, but it appears that it couldn't have been an outside job so it had to be inside, but spy couldn't have done it.

Murder in the Mews: Woman appears to have been killed. Poirot discovers that her roommate adjusted the setting so it would be thought of as murder since the dead woman killed herself because someone had been blackmailing her.

Triangle at Rhodes: A vacation for Poirot, but not really. There is a love triangle, but not the one you think. Murder is committed and it takes Poirot to figure out the real murderer.

Includes two short story versions of longer stories, but with slightly different details, and with different endings than their longer versions.

Murder in the Mews - 3/5
The Incredible Theft - 4/5
Dead Man's Mirror - 4.5/5
