adventurous emotional mysterious

A princess who would honestly rather be a goose girl, now that's intriguing. This story swept me up immediately and I felt so much anger on Alyrra's behalf. Valka? AWFUL. Alyrra's family? AWFUL. I knew where this story was going, but I had no idea how we would get there and that was very enjoyable.

For a YA book it is very refreshing to see no love interest, yes there is a prince but there is no romance toward him only platonic friendliness.
A slap in the face to all thoes who think romance is key to a novel. And it's been a day and a half since I read it and I can't get it out of my mind.

i have to say that while this book had a slow pace, to me it didn’t feel like it dragged on. i enjoyed each part of it, though i did find the begging few chapters a little more dull compared to the rest of the book.

i adored the characters, falada in particular. if you’d have told me going into this book that a horse was going to win my heart i’d probably have laughed in your face. alyrra was a particularly interesting and loveable character and her battles with the question of what justice truly was is one of the best features of this book.

it is easily one of my favourite fairytale retellings, and i liked the writing style immensely, so i will definitely be looking for more by intisar khanani. i recommend it but i do also recommend looking at the warnings as the story does cover some dark themes

I loved this story. It helped that it had themes of justice, and explored a bit of where justice can intersect with both kindness and cruelty, but even aside from that it had interesting characters and a different, but still very believable, take on the story of The Goose Girl. I suspect this one will be going on my favorites shelf...
